The story of how I found Mun Keat is pretty simple. One of my now-bridesmaids hired Adam Ong, another good photographer. On the day of her Registration of Marriage (R.O.M.), Adam brought along his friend, a part-time photographer to help out. The photos from both Adam and his friend turned out brilliantly...and the rest they say is history. This part-time photographer, now turned full-time professional photographer, is none other than Mun Keat.
I really adored the photos that Mun Keat took for my bridesmaid for her R.O.M. and decided to meet up with him sometime in August last year. Stella, my wedding planner arranged the meeting and after viewing his portfolio, I booked him as my wedding photographer. He is friendly (extremely smiley!) and comes across as someone who is genuine. Plus he has a good sense of humour. We met up again when I went home for Chinese New Year; this time, my mum, my future Mother-in-Law and my Fiancé were present as well. Amazingly, a lot has happened since the last time I saw Mun Keat - this was made apparent by his brand new studio with his pal, Adam Ong, in Empire Gallery, Subang Jaya. Needless to say, everyone liked the slideshow of photos he showed us!
As for a videographer, well, my Fiancé is a big fan of making videos when he's on a holiday. I wanted to capture all the speeches during the Wedding Dinner and of course the exchange of vows during the Ceremony. We looked through quite a number of videographers blogs and portfolio and finally settled on Keng's. Keng's is run by Edmund Lee, a friendly, down-to-earth guy who is totally immersed in the technology of things (he and my Fiance went on about the technical bits of uhh...some stuff or other when we met up). It was quite a disastrous day for Edmund when we met up: he was about half an hour late because, get this, he was stuck in the toilet with a bad stomach-ache due to something he ate during breakfast! Then, we he got to our meeting place, he whipped out his MAC to show us his portfolio of videos but his laptop refused to start up! Haha...a hilarious experience for me though! We ended up having a rather nice chat.
When finding a photographer or a videographer, it is crucial to understand what sort of style of photos and videos you prefer. Do you like a vintage and classic mood? Or are you looking for a more high fashion or retro feel? Either way, this is probably one part of the wedding that you SHOULD invest in, for when the flowers wilt and your whiter-than-white Dress yellows, all that's left from your wedding day would be the photos and the videos (and perhaps the wedding cake you froze that's sitting in the freezer!).
The second thing to do is to meet up with those photographers/videographers you have shortlisted and speak to them. Discuss your expectations, understand theirs. Also, is the chemistry right? Do they annoy the heck out of you? If yes, DO NOT BOOK them. Imagine being stuck with someone who annoyed you for the entire wedding day. What a nightmare. All the photos/videos will be ones of you looking like you're about to strangle somebody.
Fingers crossed my photos and videos come out fantastic. One can only fervently pray!!!
