The August bank holiday came and went...

...and we spent it in Prague with Mr Right's parents, his brother and his wife. I've been to Prague before, both for work and pleasure, but it is definitely a place worth visiting more than once. We flew into the Prague airport at quite an indecent time in the morning but luckily for us, our transfer to the hotel was on time and our hotel manager was kind enough to let us check in early after only a short wait.

First order of the day was to get some lunch and we headed to the nearby U Sadlu restaurant in Prague. The deco of this restaurant was medieval overkill. Dead animals hanging from the walls, dark, sombre surroundings and (authentic) knights in armour looking over our shoulder as we ate. Even the menus were made of leather and smelt faintly of something ancient. This restaurant boasts of the best roast duck in Prague and indeed, it was good. The menu was quite extensive and covered mostly traditional Czech cuisine.

The rest of our first day, we spent wandering around Old Town Square, getting distracted periodically by random happenings for e.g. a bride and groom getting off their horse-drawn carriage (doesn't get more cliche than this). The entire effect was spoilt by the groom paying the driver!

At night, we spent quite a few hours on a dinner cruise on Vltava river, admiring the lit up buildings and even caught a firework display! Unfortunately food was a paltry affair and the good company was marred by other rude and inconsiderate tourists barging their way to the buffet table and generally making me feel quite annoyed. Perhaps lack of sleep contributed to this as well.Luckily, conversation was excellent and suitably entertaining!

The next morning after a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we went on our Prague city tour. Prague Castle was the main attraction...although "castle" it is not! Much of its ruins have been replaced by modern-looking administration buildings. The changing of the guards felt quite contrived as well. Nevertheless, there are a few good viewpoints of the city from the castle.

The sun was really beating down on us that day. We were lucky enough to take some shade inside St Vitus Cathedral, which was definitely the highlight of Prague Castle. The beautiful stained glass and impressive infrastructure was wonderful.

We walked most of the way back from Prague Castle all the way to our hotel, passing by Charles Bridge along the way. We did other random stuff before heading back including my discovery of Kinder Bueno's Happy Hippos!! Absolutely love them! Why do they not make them in the UK? Preposterous!!

The funniest bit of our trip was when we crowded around in Mr. & Mrs QKS's hotel room and attempted to blow bubblegum. V was valiantly trying to learn how to...there were some incidents of bubblegum escaping the owner's mouth and landing on the carpet.

After a short break, we waited for our transfer to dinner.

After almost a half hour away from our hotel, we started to feel like we were completely our of Prague. The scenery changed dramatically to housing apartments, factories and buildings with less character than what we were used to. The restaurant itself was warm and inviting; the only drawback was that we were sitting upstairs (entertainment was downstairs!).

Still, we did get our share of the action. Folk dancing is significantly different from medieval dancing and quite fast-paced.There were several costume changes which was quite colourful and fun. Towards the end, we did get a chance to dance a little as well, with the dancers and with each other.

Dinner was a monstrously meaty affair. Just thinking about the amount of meat on the two platters makes me queasy. All in all a great night out!

Our last day in Prague was spent having a nice breakfast and a further lie-in as K wasn't feeling too well. We then headed to Kampa Park for our last lunch. This place was rather posh and not at all traditional. Food was very tasty!

Last but not least, we visited the Strahov Monastery Library came highly recommended in guidebooks.

No trip to Prague would be complete without a taste of Langose, would it? We managed to get some passing by Old Town Square, before our transfer picked us up to the airport. Mmmmm....
